Non-Violence Programme

Are you looking for positive ways to improve your relationships?

Do you take your frustrations out on others?

Are you afraid that you are repeating destructive patterns of behaviour?

Do you sometimes behave in ways you later regret?

Is your family frighten of you at home?

If you have answered 'yes' to any of these questions, this programme is for you.

The programme

  1. A one to one interview to establish your needs.

  2. An orientation night to prepare you for the group.

  3. Attendance in the main group for one session a week for 16 weeks.

Who attends?

Anyone who wishes to make positive changes to their behavioural relationships.

Men referred by...

  • the Family Court

  • the Criminal Court

  • Oranga Tamariki

  • support agencies

  • family

  • friends

  • other participants on the programme

Group sessions

The average group has between 6 and 14 participants, with a mixture of ages, ethnic groups and cultures.

It provides ....

  • a confidential place to explore issues

  • a safe environment for honest reflection on behaviour patterns

  • a place to learn how to build respectful, healthy relationships.

You will understand

  • the long and short term effects that abuse has on women and children

  • the impact of abuse from the victim's perspective.

Programme

 

You will learn about

  • unsupportive behaviours versus supportive behaviours

  • abusive behaviours versus respectful behaviours

  • early warning signs for destructive/abusive episodes

  • the ongoing cycle of abuse and violence and how to break it

  • the barriers to respectful, equal relationships

  • the dynamics of positive parenting.

You will learn how to

  • develop equity and trust in a relationship and respect differences

  • negotiate and manage conflict respectfully

  • be accountable for past and current behaviours

  • listen effectively and communicate more clearly

  • be a positive role model for children
